The Blue Igloo Playgroup

A cooperative playgroup for children 6 months to 3 years old, meeting September through May in Washington, DC's Georgetown neighborhood.
A note to interested families: because we've had such a large number of new and returning children Blue Igloo has filled its roster and closed admissions for the 2007-08 year. Please be aware that as of September 3, 2007 the playgroup will begin scheduling visits for interested families for admission in the 2008-09 year. That is, all requests to visit and applications submitted will be for entrance in September 2008.
Much as we’d like to welcome any family who’d like their child to participate in
Blue Igloo, space constraints and District of Columbia legal occupancy limits prevent us from accepting everyone interested in joining. As a result, Blue Igloo has been forced
to institute an application process for admission. The number of spaces open in any given year depends on the number of outgoing
children the previous spring. In admitting
new children, the playgroup is committed to serving:
- members of the Jerusalem Baptist Church
- children already enrolled at Blue Igloo
- siblings of children already enrolled at Blue Igloo
- siblings of Blue Igloo alumni
- residents of the local community
The Playgroup does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic
origin, religion or physical appearance in administration of its educational policies,
admissions policies or other playgroup-administered programs.
In admitting new children every year Blue Igloo strives to achieve a balance of
boys and girls, ages and developmental stages.
The admissions process for new families has two requirements: (1) a visit and (2) an on-line application,
both of which must be completed by Monday, March 2, 2009 for your child to be
considered for the 2009-10 year.
New families interested in Blue Igloo initiate the application
process by joining us for an informal visit one morning while the playgroup is
in session. Please be assured that
the visits are not “interviews” of any sort. Rather, they’re a way for current Blue Igloo children and families to meet
you and say hello, and for you to see if Blue Igloo might be right for your child. Interested parents will be able to meet
staff members and current parents, ask questions, and, of course, see what happens
on a typical day at the playgroup. Visiting children will be invited (but not required)
to participate in playgroup activities. You and your child are welcome to stay as long as you’d like, but we certainly understand
if you can only stay a short time because of naps or other commitments.
Visits are held throughout the fall and winter from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on the following dates:

- Friday, October 17, 2008
- Friday, November 7, 2008
- Friday, November 21, 2008
- Friday, January 9, 2009
- Friday, January 23, 2009
- Friday, February 2, 2009

The Blue Igloo year runs from September to May. Applications to Blue Igloo are made for
the entire eight-month period; the playgroup does not offer admissions for either
the fall or spring semester only. After
coming for a visit, if you’d like your child to be considered for admission to
Blue Igloo for the 2009-10 year, please complete an on-line application no later
than Monday, March 2, 2009. Interested
families are encouraged to apply early.
