The Blue Igloo Playgroup
Washington, DC
A cooperative playgroup for children 6 months to 3 years old, meeting September through May in Washington, DC's Georgetown neighborhood.
Founded in 2000 by local mothers, Blue Igloo is a not-for-profit cooperative playgroup designed to meet the emotional, social, physical and intellectual needs of children ages 6 months to 3 years in a safe and loving environment. The playgroup meets from 9:00 a.m. until noon on weekdays from early September to late May in the Georgetown neighborhood of Northwest Washington, DC. Additionally, the playgroup operates a summer camp during the month of June each year.
For Blue Igloo families, the playgroup offers a welcoming and dynamic place for small children to play. It introduces young children to new toys, activities, languages and friends. It allows parents to play alongside their children and take an active role in their daily fun and development while witnessing their growing confidence in group settings. At the same time, Blue Igloo offers a remarkable resource to parents and caregivers seeking advice and companionship.
Blue Igloo is a cooperative organization that thrives on the participation of all
its members— children, parents and caregivers alike. We ask each Blue Igloo family
to participate actively in maintaining the well-being both of the children and the
playgroup generally.
Every child must be accompanied to Blue Igloo by either a parent or a caregiver. Parents and/or caregivers are exclusively responsible for monitoring their child at all times to insure his/her safety as well as the safety of the group as a whole.
As a cooperative, Blue Igloo requires each family to supply a healthy snack for the group approximately three times per year per child enrolled.
